Gwen Hooper -- Former Neighbor Supports Lobel
Arlington Advocate, Thursday, February 22, 2007 - Updated: 09:00 AM EST
What brought Josh Lobel and I together as neighbors in the early 1980s was our shared friendship and concern for our beloved elderly neighbor Bertha Yerrinton, who lived in the big Victorian house at the corner of Jason and Irving streets. Between visiting, Scrabble games and checking in on Bertha, Josh and I got to know each other. And even though I now live in another neighborhood, I've gotten to know his wife and children through the years.
So I was pleased to hear that Josh had announced his interest in running for the School Committee. A neighborly/community minded step to take for someone interested in their town with skills to offer and wanting to serve. I know of his commitment to helping the School Committee arrive at a fair, adequate and equitable budget. His skills and interests would assist our schools in increasing our technical learning and help to bring our system along into the 21st century.
As a citizen and parent, he is personally committed to our schools and to their success. As a Town Meeting member, he is aware and appreciates the necessary strong relationship between the town and the schools.
Josh has been attending the School Committee meetings for the past year and is keenly aware of the challenges and issues they face and after being elected can be off and running. So please consider giving Josh your vote. He is a smart and caring person — I know, I was his neighbor.
