This is not final, but it would appear Denise Burns and Ron Spangler have won.... Thank you to everyone who worked so hard on my campaign - it was a wonderful campaign with lots of great conversations.

It is with great excitement that I am entering the race for School Committee this year. I'm excited about the possibilites for our schools in the coming years and I am eager to be part of the group that helps guide their path. I'm running because I know how critical a role our schools play in our individual and collective future and because I think I can have a positive impact on public education in Arlington.
My Qualifications
- 29-year Arlington resident
- Town Meeting Member
- Track record of involvement in our schools -- 21st Century Working Group,
Vision 20/20, Science Committee, School Directories, Classroom help, Bear Fair, Plays,
etc.
- Worked enthusiastically to pass 5-year plan/override
- For the past year and a half, I have attended almost every school committee
meeting in order to be fully aware of the decisions and directions of
the school committee. I have shared notes of many of these meetings with
the community to help keep everyone informed.
- Arlington Public Schools Technology Council
- Implemented first school/home email list group which became the
template for the systemwide solution
- Organized automation of Bishop library catalog to streamline circulation
activities
- Professional experience in technology consulting and training -- help
people and organizations to make sense of data
- Excellent listening and speaking skills
- Ex-Soccer coach
- Two children in the school system -- 6th and 9th grades
My Priorities
- Retain and recruit the best faculty and staff we can -- the core of
a successful school system is our staff.
- Embrace the diversity of our staff and students
- Increase communication and build bridges between the schools and the
community by explaining what the schools do, and what it costs. The schools
cannot be successful without the support of the community, and the community
cannot be successful without a quality school system.
- Increase the use of technology for both administrative efficiencies
and to enhance the curriculum.
- Help create and implement the district goals.
- Work to find the right balance for students and teachers as expectations
are ever increasing.
- Move our schools from good to great, this will require
hard work and increased revenue. The budget must be fair, equitable and adequate.
I'm eager to hear from you about your ideas about our schools. Feel free
to write to me at josh@joshlobel.org or call 781 791-7665.
The election is April 14 -- Please vote!
